The Story
What was the biggest surprise?
The weather and the food in Spain — especially in Alicante — are absolutely incredible. And honestly, we haven’t even explored many restaurants yet!
But the biggest surprise for us was that Spain isn’t as pet-friendly as we expected. Another surprise was the administration: if you don’t already know how things work here, it can quickly become a nightmare. Almost nothing is online, or at least very little, and many things have to be done in person.
What do you wish you knew before moving?
Probably more about how the Spanish administrative system works. It would also have helped to know more about housing rules, leases, and what to expect when renting.
How did you make friends?
By being open, talking to people, meeting other parents, and giving ourselves time. Moving abroad always requires a bit of patience, but little by little, connections happen.
Would you recommend this move to others?
It’s a very personal choice. It really depends on what each person is looking for.
But in life, it’s better to follow what you truly want rather than live with regrets. If Spain is calling you, it’s worth exploring.
